May seems to be peak conference season in the education sector, with our diaries filling with dates and events months in advance. A good conference is something to look forward to, learn from and enjoy but when your days are packed, how do you get the most out of this precious time away from the office?

1. Study the form – by which we mean, read the conference programme before you get to the venue from top to bottom and highlight your ‘must-see’ talks and sessions. Then consider which workshops and breakout sessions you’ll find most useful.

2. Make a beeline for the exhibitors in between sessions and during refreshment breaks. Believe it or not, they’re there to help you and offer solutions to some of your key marketing and admissions headaches. The really good ones won’t be all about the hard sell, they’ll have a good understanding of what you need and what you don’t. So don’t be put off, go ahead and talk to them!

3. Make notes, take photos, access the materials that are available to download and do it while you’re there. It’s all too easy to forget those great ideas that inspired you in the seminar hall once you’re back at school. At the end of each session, highlight three things that you’re definitely going to act on.

Bonus tip: wear comfy shoes! Conference days can be long and you’ll be doing quite a bit of standing, talking, sharing best practice and eating and drinking on your feet. Save those statement shoes for the evening event!

The Stickman team will be at the AMCIS Conference on 14th-16th May so make sure you pop by our stand and say HELLO.
