Keen to get your school marketing budget approved for the next academic year? Use this easy 3-step approach to get it approved fast

Now is the time of year when independent school marketing departments submit their budgets to the Bursar or the Finance department. It’s usually really tough to do this, however, as marketing teams are so stacked managing current marketing activity, and it is super hard to find the time to think ahead.

We’ve therefore outlined our recommended 3-step approach below:

1. Goals – List the School’s strategic goals and outline what this means in terms of your aims within the Marketing & Admissions Department.

2. Marketing Strategy & budget –  Scope out the bones of the strategy to deliver these goals and the budget required. Get quotes from suppliers, particularly for any new initiatives you want to introduce e.g. training, auditing etc. Leave a buffer (e.g. £5k-£10k) for any opportunities that emerge during the academic year too.

3. Outcomes – clearly illustrate how each line in your budget connects to tangible outcomes. Link projected costs to realistic growth targets – show that your requests are more than just expenses – they are strategic investments.

In a nutshell, present a reasoned plan, grounded in evidence and focused on your school’s continued success, and you stand a better chance of securing the support you need for the year ahead.
